FD PROJECT : EXEMPLARY STORY BOOK KIDS

Hi guys, yesterday I post about My Od Illustration and I promise to post more on that [ONHOLD] today, I have new things to share with you all. Recently, I have brief my students doing project's semester on "exemplary story book kids" with a twist. Do you know about The Lego Movie? Click Here. Well as you know, inside me is still "childish" because I really love playing bricks. Even now I have Transformers in bricks version from Kre-O by Hasbro.

I like to create something ordinary because I don't want it to be main-stream so I give the task to my students to create the story book based on bricks. I want to challenge student's skills to do something new and make them more creative to think.

As for me, I don't want them to feel I'm just a lecturer who just know how to give direction sooooo....I take the challenge to do the same with my own story [I took one from my student heheheheeh~]. Below is my "exemplary story book kids" and hope you can enjoy what to come in the next 1 month.

The Carpenters Story

At one time, there were a carpenter aging. He plans to retire from his job as a carpenter who is responsible for making a home in a construction company. In his mind again, with less energy, he wants to spend the rest of his life with his family. Carpenter will not accept more wages if he retires. But, he remains with the results. Then, a carpenter, told his employer of his intention. When his employer listened to an experienced carpenter, he felt sad and persuade carpenter is to withdraw the decision. But the carpenter was not budge and remained with the intent to retire. Finally, the employer agrees with the results of a carpenter, but with one condition. The last request of his employer is ask the carpenter to build a house for the last time. Carpenter was delighted and agreed to the terms set by the employer. But, happily for retirement over the spirit and skill shown during the work. As a result, the house built for the last time it was completed with casually, without specific research and use of low-quality wood. The house was completed in a short period of time. When employers look at the house, she took home the main door lock and gave it to the carpenter and said, "This is my retirement gift to you. Congratulations to retire." Carpenter was shocked by the words of his employer. He did not think that the house that he built for the last time it was the home for his own use. Would regretted him for completing the house in a hurry and if he knew before, he will build a house with the utmost care and use of high quality materials.

Okay guys, how's the story? Really good? I think YES because its remind me to work professionally even its the last job you ever had. Now, I want to share with you guys the characters with face expression in this story which I think suitable.

The Character is NOT related with live or dead person. FYI : Its just my imagery+creativity.

This is how I imagine the Old Carpenter's character. I search and refer to this Lego human figure from Google [Thank You! for saving my time to search it]. In my life, I never bought any product from LEGO yet but if I do, I would tell you hihihihi~.

My References

Now for the 2nd character, I created it to more colorful and looks wealthy because....well, you have to see it;

[Copy/Paste] This is how I imagine The Boss. Is he looks wealthy enough? huhuhuhu~. Next is Old Carpenter's Family, although his family just a glimpse but I think it should be visualize so that the children can know who are carpenter's family. We have think creatively and critically so that in the end, we not to be blame or do work twice for nothing. FOCUS is important as designer.

For me, I really love to do this kinda project because its give me more option to explore in the world of illustration, maybe I can be a pioneer to something new. It also help the students to know more tools/plug-in and etc in Adobe Illustration. Upcoming post I will post on progress of this project where this goes.

MY FD ARCHIVE : MY OLD ILLUSTRATION - REFERENCES

Hi guys, my previous post I talk about my idol & inspiration. Well today I'm going to post about my old illustration after I finish my diploma  way back in 2004. It's been a decade I kept it for so long in my storeroom. I think you [including me] would be surprise my illustration a bit rough and the hell I did it, tell the truth; I'm not good in sketching a human figure But, PRACTICE! yes practice make it better. I will post part by part because there are a lot illustrations that I did. For PART I, I post on anatomy human figure refer to pictures. Back days all of my artworks product from Faber Castell [Click Here] where I'm using the pencil sets from soft to hard graphite like below;

At first, I never thought there are so many kinds of graphite grade

If you want to be a designer; the first thing you must have is MONEY. If your study related with IDEA, you must sacrifice everything for the sake of your passionate. I've been investing a lot of money including my education loan and family, now this is where I stand as lecturer in art & design. I'm grateful to my family especially my father who help me a bit even though he doesn't agree [he insist me to go business course] with me going to art & design course but I've show him that with this course, I can go for business with my set of skills.

Ok, before my writing when out from the title; here are my old illustration. Enjoy!

Above are my research illustration on eyes, nose, mouth and ears. I do research illustration based on artist and athlete in magazines hahaha~well in my university, we are not allowed/using nude figure hihihi~. In 2000 till 2004 its my diploma year where my favorite artist - EMINEM [till now] and sport - BASKETBALL [retired]. Majority of it I refer them to do the task been given my lecturer. Below are my illustration on hands, legs and body parts; some of its from myself especially hands & foots. The rest is references I took from basketball players from NBA.

Besides illustration on anatomy, I also have to illustrate the skeleton - the head only. This one, I refer to medical book. Its really hard to sketch the head because the real one is white but PRACTICE! yes practice make me better to sketch it.

I can tell you, if you had a dream to be a doctor specialize; you don't have to study for so long. You can just be an ILLUSTRATOR specialize in BONES hahahahah~. I've learn so much thing in one semester about bones when I do this tasks. It's good because when you become a DESIGNER; you can be anyone that you to be. Believe It Or Not!

MY FD ARCHIVE : INSPIRATION & IDOL

I like to draw anything what come into my mind, I got this "thingy" from my mom because she's good in art especially - drawing, REALLY! I mean it! To tell you all the truth, I start to know art from my mom.

This is my MOM with her grandchild [my son]
p/s : Ignore the buffalo

Then it grew deeply when I was in middle school, I really in love with art even I joined the art club at my school to do stage design, went for umbrella competition at Kompleks Kraf Malaysia at Jalan Conlay and much more [Can't remember hahah~forgot already].

In my 1st year Diploma at university, I've learned Drawing Fundamental with great lecturer and well-known fine art artist in Malaysia - En. Jailani Abu Hasan : video [Now I think he's Prof]. He taught me how to do art with his fundamental. I'm very grateful to have an experience with him, Thank You so much Sir.

This is HIM

After I finish my 1st year, I went for my department interview in my 2nd year. Thank god, I got in the Department of Graphic Design & Digital Media. It's very tough to get in because I have to compete with all my friends where we have to show our best artwork from 1st year to convince the interviewer [the lecturers]. Later, I will upload my artwork from my 1st year IF I found it hahaha~

In my 2nd year in Department of Graphic Designer & Digital Media, I obsess with Illustration subject. My lecturer for this subject is Puan Jamizan, even though she's kinda soft spoken person but she very strict in illustration. In her subject, she told us to do illustration on human figure [not naked] based on ourself, pictures and anything that related with human figure. At that time, it was era of hip hop and basketball [I'm one of this era] so I've many references to do the illustration assignments.

My favorite subject

After this, I'll try to upload my illustration artwork so that you guys can see how its look like in back days when I was "baby" in the world of graphic design. There's no one in the world would get the final artwork without sketching it first. From there you can get a lot of idea with sketching.

Think a moment, do you get a laptop or computer to draw when you were 1 year old? I think NOT! It must be start with color pencil, crayon, pencil or anything with ink/pastel then draw on wall or paper, am I right?
